Did these two oil sketches today. River scene is contre jour and tricky to do. Pitching the darks is the problem. A tone too dark maybe.  I have read other blogs where artists recommend wearing a peak cap to hide sun from eyes would definitely have helped. 

Top picture was in flat light and rain showers. Fancied trying something without greens. moved windows and shifted lamp to left.

With watercolour painting I feel I know what I am doing (much like riding a bike). With oils I have to think about the process far more. Never mind practice makes perfect.  2 oils a day for 20 years I might get there!!
